Welcome to my first every Blog Post. Being my first ever, I am very much developing my writing style and content, and seeing what works!
Parties come in all shapes and sizes, and there is a place for all of them. What I love is that each has its own quirks and uniquities (I feel that should be a word) - An 18th Birthday Party is going to look very different to an Underground club night for example!
House Parties touch a special place in my heart. They give people the opportunity to express themselves and put their own stamp on their event. Bespoke features and little touches add character, warmth and fun. A House Party is where you really get to throw down!
This one was no different - multicoloured festoon lighting, huge '30' balloons and cocktails in fishbowls (who remembers them). They even had a little vintage pick n mix station!
Most of all, the crowd made this party what it was. It was great to get behind the decks with some of the attendees, and show them a thing or two about DJing - even help them blend 2 songs together! The classic old school party bangers went down well - and we finished off with getting down (and singing along to) the Spice Girls!
Admittedly, a few years ago I would have turned my nose up at the possibility of even playing the Spice Girls, even worried about my 'street cred' or 'credibility' as a DJ. I had full respect for people who listened to or liked that music (taste is personal and relative), however in terms of playing it out - you wouldn't catch me doing it!
However recently I have realised, a banger is a banger, a good DJ plays the right song, at the right time, to the right crowd of people. As I embark on widening my following and diversifying the type of crowds I play to - it is this mantra I will stick to.
Thank you to Hannah and her family and friends who made me feel so welcome on the night and hosted a banging House Party!
