Rachel's 30th

Playing for friends is a special privilege - it allows you to be part of their celebrations and contribute your art towards making their day the best it could be. Playing for Rachel and Stu for Rachel's 30th was a blast! It was held at the Bird of Smithfield which is a fantastic venue - full of character and class. Rachel set up a glitter tattoo bar which added a funky touch to proceedings. Stu owns Eat Me Events & Catering, and duly provided delicious food all night long to all the guests. Playing out while chowing down on a salt beef sandwich was a personal highlight!!

Playing this event was another venture out of my comfort zone. From playing at clubs and parties where everyone wants to dance all night long I knew this one would be a lower key affair and warm up/background tunes would be the order of the day.

Preparation is key and playing out is so much more enjoyable when you have curated a playlist bespoke to each event. Speaking to Rachel and Stu about their wishes prior to the party allowed me to curate an appropriate setlist, full of tracks that would compliment the event without being too uptempo or brash. I take pride in playing the right song, at the right time for the right crowd and its always a great feeling when you see your set list doing the business live!

I really enjoyed the added element of friends coming to chat and see what I do, and showing a couple who were interested the ropes around the DJ equipment and show them how to transition between 2 songs - The Vibe Academy is officially open!
